Nonprofit Organization Management - Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Building Blocks India is an organisation that is committed to breaking the poverty cycle in India by providing a free quality education to under privileged children. Currently, Building Blocks has 7 pre-schools in different parts of Bangalore, educating 520 children, and is in the process of opening more. All of our schools follow a structured program to educate children from the slums. Since the schools are strategically located near slum neighbourhoods, it makes it very easy for the mothers to walk their children to school each morning. When a child is coming from a home that has no electricity, running water or toilet, everything in the school is a learning experience. They learn to wash their hands with soap in the sink and also learn the use of a toothbrush for the first time, look at books with colourful pictures, use crayons for colouring and celebrate their birthday with their friends! Attending school at Building Blocks is a new world for them! Giving this opportunity is changing the lives of these children to become more caring and productive members of society. With many philanthropic people visiting the school, the Organisation started receiving greater financial support. Volunteers contributed immensely to the training of the teachers and staff. Once the first school was set up with a good curriculum, Building Blocks opened more schools in Bangalore. Our schools are open 6 days a week from 8.45 to 1:00 p.m. Apart from quality education, the children also receive a nutritional breakfast and lunch. We want to thank each of our sponsors for partnering with us to change the world of the less fortunate children. Building Blocks is a project of Family Development Services, which is a registered charity under the government of Karnataka Registrar of Societies since 2005.
