Flowers & Fancies has been in business since 1971, when Eddie Wingrat located a building in "downtown" Stevenson, and opened a " flower shop". The store was an outgrowth of Bernice Wingrats business Party Line. Bernice, from Philadelphia, brought with her a knack of coordinating parties. Party Line sold social stationary, rented tablecloths, out of Bernice's' home as she assisted her clients with other décor as a "party coordinator". Eddie saw value in having the instant referral from Bernice - and Flowers & Fancies opened as what is now called – an event florist. Following his instincts as an accommodation to customer requests, Eddie started to deliver flowers to homes and hospitals for family occasions, holidays and get wells. The delivery business was born.Through the 1970's, brothers, Stanton and Mark followed, and in a blink - a full blown floral services company was running. They started Gourmet Bouquet – delivering fresh bouquets to supermarkets. Plantscapes formed to service office and homes with plant installs and maintenance, and Flowers & Fancies was busy doing gift delivery, and event and wedding décor. The company won accolades for the best flowers and bunches in Baltimore. Plants became a staple as well as a "new idea" - a walk in warehouse of flowers open to the public. In the mid 1980, stores were opened in Village of Cross Keys – in Greenhouse building in the center of the busy shopping center, Pikesville – building out the old Pikesville Fruit Market, Downtown at Calvert and Lombard, and in Columbia. Through the 1990's, the focus of the business was to provide world class customer service, with the highest quality floral product, with an eye on Baltimore's growing hospitality and medical services business. In late 1990's the retail locations were closed with the focus looking to hotels, hospitals, and office buildings, along with keeping the warehouse refrigerator fully stocked for people to walk in. The decision to do so charted the future for company.Every customer and each transaction – one at a time was, and still is important. The service aspects were worked on day in day out. Finding new sources of flowers and plants was a top priority, and making sure that the highest quality and variety flowers kept coming.As technology became more into daily life, the need to stay ahead was the priority. The growth of the internet and use of e-mail meant that easier communication, and more photos of out products, and easier transactions became a focus for our customers. The need for more space in order to house our hospitality business our delivery, gifting and trucks and to house all of the wonderful floral options. Owings Mills became the choice and the business moved in fall of 2001.For over 45 years, the mission is simple - the answer is yes – what color? what time? how can we make it work? - The relationships with our worldwide and local farms continues to be a top priority along. The high level of world class customer service – while we have added many dedicated team members - we have retained many, too, that were with us in Stevenson. We owe a lot to both our entire team and to you our valued and loyal customers.
