Education Management - New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States
Global Girls was founded by two students from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. As first-generation and minority students, the co-founders created Global Girls as a platform to reach young middle school girls, aged 10-13, with a desire to learn more about the world that surrounds them. Global Girls is an educational initiative driven to help young girls understand the impact they can make in their community by giving them the opportunity to learn about diverse topics, that are normally left out of the typical classroom, through weekly instruction, activities, reflections and group discussions. Using an intersectional pedagogical approach, Global Girls provides an atmosphere that encourages girls to become engaged, confident, and conscious leaders. Global Girls, an after-school girls' empowerment program, was created by and for girls to serve as a safe space for young students to acquire knowledge while simultaneously addressing and discussing problems in their local community that directly affect them. The purpose behind Global Girls is to give young girls, who face racial, cultural, and economic barriers, an opportunity to develop themselves as the agents of change they have the potential to become. Global Girls cultivates, through a feminist model of leadership, a new generation of empowered leaders composed solely of female, minority students. The first launch of Global Girls began December 4th, 2018 and ran until March 4th, 2019 at Maxson Middle School in Plainfield, New Jersey.#ACTLOCALTHINKGLOBAL
