The Jane Austen Literacy Foundation works to effect positive and significant change to global literacy rates.In excess of 770 million people are currently living without fundamental literacy skills*. Their inability to read and write dramatically increases their risk of suffering long-term poverty and illness and engaging in anti-social behaviour. WHO WE AREEstablished by Jane Austen's 5th great niece, Caroline Jane Knight, the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation is a registered not-for-profit charity created to provide FREE literacy resources to communities in need across the world. WHAT WE DORun by volunteers, we work to create Confident Readers and Proud Writers in honour of Jane. We harness the power of the Jane Austen community worldwide to raise funds to provide FREE books and writing materials to communities in need. OUR WORK We work in partnership with verified literacy program providers who are best qualified to do this essential work on the ground.
