Performing Arts - Marysville, Ohio, United States
In the summer of 1996, several high school students decided to form a summer theater program for kids in Marysville. While there were opportunities to perform during the school year, a local summer program didn't exist. Thus, the Marysville Summer Theater Workshop (STW) was born. This organization is unique in the fact that all aspects of the production—including direction, choreography, music, set design, set construction, stage crew, marketing, publicity, administration, sponsorship and fundraising—are managed by the high school leadership team. The Board of Directors acts only as a sounding board, leaving all creative and administrative decisions to the students. The first STW had 10 participants, today the program has 50+ students in grades 5-8. Throughout this five week program, the leadership team of 10 high school students work to encourage proper technique, confidence, and team building.
