The Ontario Centre for Engineering and Public Policy (OCEPP) is the first body of its kind in Canada. It was founded by Professional Engineers Ontario in 2008. The centre focuses on specific areas of research including energy, the environment, health, regulation and engineering talent. OCEPP's mission is to:• enhance the engagement of the engineering profession in the development of public policy;• ensure that public policy development takes into account appropriate technical requirements for success;• develop innovative solutions to public policy problems based on technology;• help engineering professionals translate complex technical issues into a publicly accessible discourse;• work to increase the public policy content of engineering education programs;• carry a message of the value, application, contribution and investment of technology to the citizenry and their representatives;• communicate more frequently, clearly and proactively on the contributions of the engineering profession to public safety, health, well-being and economic growth; and• promote the role of self-regulation of the engineering profession.In addition, OCEPP actively reaches out to members of the engineering profession, the academic community, policy-makers, opinion leaders and others interested in advancing the public interest. Lectures, panel discussions, technical seminars and other events foster greater awareness and discussion of technological problems and public policy.:
