Online Media - Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Open Canada is an online magazine published by the Canadian International Council that aims to engage Canadians from all walks of life in a discussion about this country's place in the world. We do this by publishing, in English and French, analysis, commentary, reporting and personal stories that will provoke debate and encourage Canadians to become involved in pushing for the foreign policy they want both through government and non-state actors and actions. We are guided by the highest standards of journalism, including truth, evidence-based arguments, balance, depth in our research and rigour in our analysis. We are committed to broadening the conversation. We will do this by championing diversity among our contributors, in the opinions and perspectives of those we publish and among the citizens we hope to reach. Open Canada was founded in June 2011 by the Canadian International Council in collaboration with Taylor Owen. From 2015 to 2019, Open Canada was published by the Centre for International Governance Innovation before returning to the Canadian International Council in 2020. Since its inception, Open Canada has published thousands of articles on international affairs and Canadian foreign policy and has served as a hub for communities in Canada and beyond to meet and discuss world events and new ideas. It has won seven Canadian Online Publishing Awards, including best overall online media site and content of the year in 2013, and, in 2017 and 2018, best investigative article or series. As Open Canada transitions back to CIC ownership, the CIC gratefully acknowledges the Centre for International Governance Innovation, a non-partisan think tank based in Waterloo, Ontario, for its role as publisher of Open Canada from 2015-2019. We want you to be part of this conversation. Please send your feedback and story pitches to Open Canada's editor-in-chief Michael Petrou at michael@thecic.org.
