Queer Maghreb Coalition Details
Introduction: The coalition was created in 2018 after a meeting that was held in Tunis by a number of organizations and individuals coming from Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria and Libya. We do not exclude Mauritania, however, the actual context does not permit potential interested organizations/ individuals to do so. The coalition is not-for profit and non-governmental and has no base, meetings are conducted in the latter countries, that are accessible to the persons that are involved in the coalition. The meetings can also be virtual. The region in which we are situated is divided in countries after a process of colonization/administrative division that we denounce until this day. Hence, we have common specificities and identities that we feel the urge be united. The idea of creating the coalition came from a specific need of proper representatvity. the countries and areas that we represent feel excluded and not represented in the global human rights and sogiesc movements of the MENA region and western counties and other areas in the world. Target group: Associations – organizations – groups and individuals belonging to: Grand Maghreb region. Our vision: Our vision is based on respecting and defending human rights, sogiesc matters and LGBTQI+ individuals where any kind of discrimination is eliminated. Where mobility rights are protected and where the is no such thing as guardianship even within our coalition. We denounce every kind of guardianship either based on our target group, persons concerned and the cause that we fight for since we believe that the latter are the only ones that have the legitimacy to be mobilized for their rights and to decide their own fate and movements. Our missions: Defending human rights, sexual and every right that gives autonomy and auto determination to persons belonging to the coalition (grand Maghreb) within the frame of empowerment and solidarity.
