Oil & Energy - Houston, Texas, United States
The Graduate Certificate in Global Energy, Development, and Sustainability (GEDS) at the University of Houston is a nine-unit sequence (3 courses) that introduces graduate students, government officials, and leaders of NGOs to current "best practices" for designing oil and gas projects that will prove beneficial to all stakeholders (communities, companies, governments) for generations to come. GEDS courses focus on the social, political, economic, and environmental impacts of oil and gas projects ("non-technical" issues in oil and gas parlance). Using a multidisciplinary approach (Law, Economics, History, Business, Anthropology, Technology), each course provides students with specialized analytical frameworks and tools to help them recognize, predict, and mitigate the negative impacts that sometimes accompany oil and gas production (both in the U.S. and abroad).
