The mission of Advanced Materials and Building Efficiency Research Laboratory (AMBER Lab) is to tackle pressing societal issues through fundamental and practical research in innovative and new construction materials. Our research interests encompass a wide range from materials characterization, mechanical and durability assessment to building applications and development of sustainable urban infrastructure. Our research areas include morphology and mechanical property study of hydration products, valorization of Mg(OH)2 from waste brine for production of carbon-neutral MgO cement, accelerated CO2 curing of reactive MgO cement, structure and electrochemical characterization of passive film of carbon steel in concrete, 3D printing of ultra-lightweight concrete, feasibility assessment of seawater use in concrete production, and development of an experimentally validated geopspatial computational thermodynamic model for cities.
