The inspiration for our foundation came from the Union of Relief and Development Associations (URDA), which operates from its head office in Beirut, the capital and largest city of Lebanon. This charity was founded in 2012 as a joined effort by more than 100 humanitarian committees and organizations; all aiming to help support the influx of Syrian refugees into Lebanon. It has since been running programmes in the areas of relief, shelter, healthcare, education, psycho social, support, development and sponsorship. URDA operates on an international level, and in other countries such as Spain and USA similarly effective, independent programmes have been organised.Meanwhile, we found that The Netherlands is a potential area of humanitarian work, and in February 2016 ‘Stichting URDA' was founded by former activists of URDA Lebanon. Although ‘Stichting URDA' will be operating independently from URDA in Lebanon, it was the achievement of URDA in Lebanon and other countries that motivated those activists, active charity activists themselves, to offer the same support all over the world.
