Education/Training

I address concerns regarding students' attendance, grades, and discipline with students, parents, and school staff. While I work particularly with 9th and 10th graders, as needed I work with all grade levels. I am also the SSIKE Adviosr; SSIKE (Successful Students Inspired through Knowledge & Education) is a student-driven, diversity group which focuses on the individual's academic potential with special emphasis placed on nurturing the GPA (grade point average) and on postsecondary education. SSIKE aims to create awareness for issues relating to students of diverse backgrounds and their potential for academic success. SSIKE (and its parent organization) looks to remove barriers and create access to academic and co-curricular opportunities. SSIKE also investigates the role culture plays in the academic, personal and social lives of West High students. SSIKE Officers and its members are also responsible for the production of the West High School Diversity Dinner and the SSIKE Academic Recognition Night. The SSIKE advisor coordinates college visits, conference opportunities, and academic supports such as the after-school tutoring program and SAT/ACT preparation classes for SSIKE members from all four grade levels; primarily for students from underrepresented populations.
