Oxford MediStress Ltd, a spin-out company from the University of Oxford, has developed the CopingCapacity™ stress-monitoring system that provides the first direct, objective, quantitative measurement of stress. The proprietary blood test, which works in minutes from a finger prick of blood, rapidly determines if a person is under stress by looking at how white blood cells (leukocytes) respond to an in vitro chemical challenge. The system is easily portable for use on-site at company health-screening events or for specific stress-screening days.The system is currently being used by a number of elite sports organisations including Olympic Swimming programmes, Premiership Football clubs and Formula-1 racing teams. The system is also being evaluated by a number of gyms and health/fitness clubs as a value-added service to its members.
