Founded in 2012, Institutional Stove Solutions (InStove) is a Cottage Grove, Oregon-based nonprofit dedicated to improving human and environmental health through renewable energy technology and education. We design and distribute the most efficient biomass cookstove in the world. Our stoves are primarily sited in hospitals, orphanages, school feeding programs and refugee camps in Africa and Haiti. Instoves are currently being placed in communities for emergency preparedness on the Oregon coast by the Oregon Food Bank, Oregon Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters and other partners.*InStoves are manufactured in Cottage Grove, OR, and provide jobs for local workers.*Instoves are available in three different sizes and can be outfitted with a pot, wok, an autoclave for sterilization of medical supplies, a water pasteurizer and a pressure canner.*InStoves run on small amounts of wood, which make them ideal for low resource settings in which electricity or modern fuels are scarce or unavailable. It is possible to cook for over 200 people with a few pounds of wood. *According to the United Nations Development Programme, "Every dollar invested into disaster preparedness saves seven dollars in disaster aftermath."*InStove has deployed over 1200 stoves to partners in 34 countries.*InStove is listed in a World Health Organization's compendium of "Innovative Health Technologies for Low-Resource Settings." We have been recognized by the Danish Think Tank Sustainia as one of the 100 most sustainable solutions in the world.
