Merchant City Medical has been providing high quality and convenient general practice services in the City Centre and East End of Glasgow since 2010. The practice founder, Dr Raymond Orr, is an experienced General Practitioner who has worked within the NHS and in private medicine for 13 years. Before moving into General Practice, Dr Orr was trained in general medicine, accident and emergency and cardiology. Dr Orr was honoured to win the Royal College of General Practitioners' James Scobbie medal after achieving the highest numerical score in the membership exam of any candidate in the West of Scotland faculty. In 2010, before setting up the practice, he received his diploma in Occupational Medicine. Dr Orr feels that modern medical practice has become too focused on protocols, centrally-set targets and 'costs' at the expense of patient wellbeing. He instead believes in the beneficial effects of strong partnerships where doctors are able to listen intently and learn from their patients.
