Sam and Kylie play a variety of instruments: trumpet, guitar, synthesizer, drums (Sam), trombone, flute, voice, piano (Kylie). With years of formal training, college degrees, practice, practice, practice and a variety of live experience, they put their skills into action performing, teaching and producing music in WNC. Based out of Asheville, Sam and Kylie perform at weddings and other special events around the region, they teach lessons-- now, via Zoom, to students anywhere in the world-- and they create music, collaborating with artist friends in the community. Sam plays classical guitar and often plays in a duet with violinists Kate Bryant or Linda Kendall Fields. Kylie B. & the Birds is a jazz ensemble featuring Sam and Kylie at the core with Andy John on bass/chromatic harmonica and Zack Downes on drums. These musical groups are available for hire! Dinobirds (an experimental improv duo grounded in sequences set up on Moog synthesizers, jammed on top of by Zack and Sam) and Sam's solo work gets a voice through IMS too.
