Sadly, in the past many Malawians were forced by poverty to illegally cut down trees for firewood and poach wildlife for its meat, but in recent years the situation in the country has improved tremendously and by working closely together with various partner organizations, the Malawi Department of National Parks and Wildlife can be proud of some great conservation achievements. Numbers of elephant, zebra, buffalo, leopard and many antelope species are continuously growing and since the reintroduction of lions and rhinos, Malawi is now again one of Africa's Big 5 safari destinations. Enthusiastic birders (like ourselves!) should not forget to pack their binoculars and camera with nearly 700 different bird species in Malawi!We are looking forward to meeting you here!
