1handPlate is a family-run entrepreneurial company that aims to develop and expand functional services in a Nordic, sustainable and aesthetic design. 1handPlate is designed and developed by the architect Jóannes Petersen, who for almost a decade has worked to create the perfect plate for receptions and gatherings. The idea arose in 2008, when Jóannes in company with his wife Marianna was at a reception in Copenhagen. The guests were served a plate in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, but with both hands busy it is difficult to move around and greet people, exchange business cards etc. Astonished why no one had previously invented something similar, Jóannes went home and drew the perfect reception plate shaped after one of the peeled prawns that had been lying on his plate. The curved design allows the glass to rest stably and balanced in the center of the plate, while the owner of the dish can have a hand free to hand out handshakes, open doors or check mobile. Jóannes' plate received an overwhelming reception at the launch in 2017, and both wife, children and children-in-law are involved in the company, which works to make 1handPlate a global brand within Nordic design.
