1Humanity is the project's arm of Global Compassion, a New Mexico 501c3 nonprofit organization that builds intercultural relationships based on respect and understanding through travel, education, and communication. We are involved with: Shared Humanity and Empathy: Our 1Humanity Programs create student relationships that introduce, examine, and affirm a variety of narratives from another culture. This interaction pushes students to reflect on their social and cultural biases, break down those biases, and change their perspectives so that they have new understandings that invite them to then practice empathy for those who would often be considered "others" with whom they share no common ground. The PenPal Project: Our flagship program is entering its fourth year of connecting Tanzanian and American students who learn about each other's lives and cultures through transformative conversations shared in hand-written letters.Digital Storytelling Project: This year we are excited to announce our new Digital Storytelling Program. The donation of an Ipad to each of our 1Humanity Tanzanian Schools has allowed us to engage both countries in this technology-based exchange. With this program, we invite students to share short video stories about their schools, their cities, their families, their unique interests, and their cultures. Tanzanian Student Scholarships: 1Humanity also provides educational scholarships to Tanzanian students based on their financial need and a talent and passion for learning a specific artistic or entrepreneurial discipline outside of traditional university studies.
