1st National Bank of South was established in 1932 by a group of local businessmen during the bleakest days of the Great Depression. The charter for, what was then called, The First National Bank of Homestead was issued in late October 1932. Earlier that year the bank organizers had purchased the Bank of Homestead building at 4 South Krome Avenue, including its furniture and fixtures for $10,000. The new Bank opened its doors November 1, 1932 with $35,000 capital. Year after year, the Bank continued to grow and expand to new locationsIn 2001, the Bank changed its name from First National Bank of Homestead to 1st National Bank of South Florida, to more accurately reflect its actual market area and customer base.
