3 West Material Solutions LLC, is a manufacturer of tap hole fill sands for use in the electric arc furnace process of making steel. By blending specific sized grains of ceramic materials with resistance to high temperatures and corrosive environments, our products help to ensure the free opening of EBT (eccentric bottom tap) style electric arc furnaces. The actual description of what our products do, is to fill the volume of the valve body in the floor of an electric arc furnace while steel scrap is being melted and refined to ensure the free flow of metal to a transfer ladle once the valve is opened. We have a product line consisting of three main offerings: WestFill TSS – a pure Silica (SiO2) grain with excellent flow and fill characteristics and high temperature stability ensuring free opening of the tap hole on the steel furnace WestFill TSOL – a blend of silica and olivine grains which maintains the free opening characteristics while adding a source of magnesia (MgO), which reduces the corrosive wear on the tap hole refractories caused by the steel and slag WestFill TSOH – a blend of silica and olivine grains with a high proportion of olivine to further reduce corrosive wear in aggressive environments associated with specialty steel alloys, and/or a wide product mix of steels melted in the furnace Our blending facility is located in south central Ohio that are each capable of manufacturing and packaging all three products. We work with the plant operations staff to ensure the product meets the needs of the individual site. Each product can be customized through particle sizing and proportion of component grains to fit and individual plant's needs. Contact us!
