Connecting the 50th Anniversary of independence of the Republic of Kenya with sustainable tourism, international marketing and national development goals. The "50 Treasures of Kenya" project is an innovative concept seeking to contribute to better utilizeKenyaʼs tourism industry potential. Key areas of focus are the development of sustainable andwidespread tourism throughout the country and marketing such tourism domestically andinternationally. By identifying, documenting, proclaiming and marketing 50 popular and hitherto lesserknown tourist attractions – the "50 Treasures of Kenya" – the project intends to make a significantcontribution to the countryʼs socio-economic development and also help attain the Millennium Goals aswell as those of Kenya Vision 2030. Including local people living in vicinity of the 50 Treasures into themanagement of their resources as well as letting them benefit from tourism is closely tied to Kenyandecentralization efforts and can help put into practice and firmly anchor the newly adopted constitutionamong people at the grassroots level.
