We offer LED back lit, liquid crystal displays that are eminently viewable in full sunlight and smoothly dimmable to be viewed comfortably on the darkest night. 5K is the developer and supplier of the world's highest quality – brightest – and dimmest – LED back lit liquid crystal displays. No contradiction here - to enhance night vision we dim to less than 0.5nit (the equivalent of the light of one candle spread over two square meters). 5K's displays are the only sunlight viewable LCDs on the market. Our water-cooled and air-cooled models are 5000 and 3000 nits respectively, so they are truly viewable in direct sunlight. Our interior models are 1000 nits which is the same brightness offered in our competition's exterior models. Founded in 2002, Florida-based 5K offers LED back lit displays bright enough to be viewable in full sunlight while able to be dimmed to levels low enough to be viewed in total darkness without affecting the operator's night vision. Although 5K's initial goal was to design a display markedly brighter than those of competitors, the company learned that offering the dimmest displays was just as important. Working side-by-side with experienced seamen, with a focus on safety and help from NASA technicians and engineers 5K has produced a range of displays that are eminently viewable in every light while being operationally transparent. Since 2007 three world-class sailing yachts have been making ocean crossings with our water-cooled customOCEAN Line technology in their displays. 5K's latest additions to its customOCEAN Line are air-cooled 15-inch, 19-inch and 22-inch displays.
