50PlusOnFIRE.com is our blog that chronicles our journey as a couple."I'm 50+, and since 2004 I've worked as a financial educator, credit counselor, and accredited financial counselor. In 2014, I authored a book on personal finance. Plus, I've facilitated thousands of in-person personal finance workshops of my own design in addition to thousands more online. I started my personal finance journey late, though, after maxing out my first credit card in 36 hours, being in consumer debt my entire 20s, taking out a couple of payday loans, bouncing dozens of checks and having at least one credit card account charge off because of my negligence."From my wife: "I'm 50-. As implied, I'm not in my 50s yet, but we are on this journey together. My expertise lies in 30 years of caring for and feeding a family of 6 on a nonprofit income."As a couple, we've realized we need to do something different. We don't want to retire on Social Security and a limited IRA. We have committed to eliminating our credit card debt, our student loan debt, and even our mortgage debt by the time 50+ turns 60. Additionally, we are building passive income streams that will permit us to pursue our passions outside an 8-5 workday in our late 50s and early 60s.Oh, and all that comes while we put generosity first, donating the first 50% of our passive income to our church and community charities to do some good in this world. And after ye have obtained a hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good—to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted.
