Fabrication is the process of preparing raw steel components for erection in the field. The process includes creating bolt locations, affixing or welding plates and stiffeners, as well as cutting angles for tilt or decorative purposes. The fabricator works from shop drawings provided by engineering and has to be exact. Parts are shipped to site and when perfect, the pieces go together like a set of legos in the field.
