Abalulu is an old children's middle eastern game, which we used to play growing up. The game is all about role play, imagination, creativity and individuality. Taking turns, one of the children takes the role of Abalulu, the "lovable ghost" and runs around with his/her arms flapping. The Abalulu would chase the other children, shouting "Abalulu is coming, Abalulu is coming!", while his/her playmates scatter around filling the room with laughter. Abalulu is one of my best memories as a child; the game would bring me to an imaginary universe, being Abalulu, a strong, powerful, energetic and tribal figure who could do anything and be anything. Drawing from the folklore of my childhood, Abalulu is based on ancient symbols and motifs such as freedom, success, protection, and confidence. Abalulu has created a new language, elements taken from the adult world, still maintaining the kid's purity and naivety. There are different symbols woven through Abalulu's collection, in the forms of birds, handprints, eyes and leaders, connect the line to the folklore of old. Abalulu is designed to inspire imagination for children who want to roam the world freely, to children who dare and don't care. Abalulu collections lie in a connection between East and West, a conspicuous fusion of worlds. We choose unique fabrics, sometimes developing our own, using ultra-soft and comfortable material. The materials often combine ancient techniques such as the "Block Printing" (wood carving to create stamp printing) with more contemporary ones. Some of those include modern metallic fabrics and brilliant foil patterns which has a combination of faded and torn, of shiny and tight.
