Abbey English Centre has been established with the mission, ‘To Offer the Highest Quality English Language Programmes' in Hong Kong. We have a Western management team who have more than 20 years teaching experience in Hong Kong. The courses have been specifically developed for students whose second language is English. We offer English classes in Sheung Wan and Fortress Hill. Maximum class size is 6 students. Our TeachersOur teachers are all Native English Speakers, with a first degree and a TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language) qualification. They all have experience of teaching in Hong Kong and are familiar with the demands of the Hong Kong education system. They use a student centred interactive teaching approach.Our Teaching MethodologyOur teachers use the "Communicative Approach" in their teaching. This approach encourages students to learn through interactions in a genuine and natural English environment. The model used is called ESA, which is made up of three stages -Engage, Study and Activate.Engage - to motivate the students, attention is focused on the lesson theme through stories, games, exercises or language forms. These raise the students' curiosity and interest.Study – students then study activities that focus on the target language and how it is constructed in a controlled environment.Activate – exercises and activities are designed to get students to use the target language as freely and communicatively as they can in an authentic natural environment.Small Group TeachingWe believe students can learn best in a small group. Therefore our courses have a maximum of six students in a class. This encourages excellent student to teacher and student to student interaction.
