In 1964, fashion and costume Historian and Designer Rosana Pistolese founded the Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome and Milan, creating an educational establishment that would serve both the fashion industry and the costume needs of entertainment industry. Over the succeeding 54 years, the school has educated a number of renowned fashion designers, including Alessandro Michele, creative director of Gucci and his predecessor Frida Giannini; Tommaso Aquilano; Albino D'Amato and Maurizio Galante... Alumni within the costume design industry include Isabella Rossellini, Oscar Winner Manlio Rocchetti, Francesca Sartori and Illustrator and Cirque du Soleil designer Stefano Canulli.Through the Accademia's Industry contacts students participate in live brief projects and are sponsored with fabrics and materials by Italy's finest producers.
