MISSION STATEMENT World Camp (WC) improves access to quality health services, education, and resources through community-driven initiatives in Malawi. PROGRAMS Founded in 2000 by a group of passionate, dedicated college students, World Camp began as a grassroots movement for basic HIV/AIDS prevention education. Evolving as needs in Malawi change, the organization included environment and gender in their education programs. World Camp expanded outreach to primary school teachers, community groups, and a scholarship fund for secondary female students. Today, World Camp's work focuses on 3 key programs to foster local leadership and quality health services. World Camp Clubs (WCCs) WCCs are student-run, after-school clubs that conduct outreach projects in their communities to tackle locally challenging health issues Formal leadership trainings pave the way for student-led income generating activities such as starting a garden and making and selling placemats to generate income for HIV/AIDS outreach activities. Clubs also performed educational dramas for younger students and volunteered to assist the elderly. WC currently works with 8 active World Camp Clubs and provides leadership trainings each semester. Camp Hope Camp Hope is a week-long residential camp where kids with HIV can just be kids, free from stigma and judgment. The program enables World Camp to strengthen the protection, care, and support of children affected by HIV and AIDS in Malawi. Camp Hope 2014 hosted 161 campers and worked with 57 of their guardians. MediServ Launched in 2014, MediServ brings vital health services to the under-staffed, under-funded, and under-resourced Kamuzu Central Hospital. 16 health professionals from the US worked with local Malawian providers and performed 60 surgeries and 120 emergency room procedures. The team removed masses, cared for a 2 year old with a skull fracture, performed mastectomies, treated many burns, and performed an emergency tracheotomy.
