In Active Science®, children wear activity devices ("accelerometers") to monitor their own exercise data while engaging in fun games and activities. Activity is tracked in real time and transformed into colorful graphs and figures through the use of an Android mobile app and Amazon Fire HD tablet. Daily exercise data such as steps or calories become part of brief interactive lessons focused in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Individual progress is displayed using features such as "My Achievements" and leader boards, and players gain virtual reward points that can be redeemed for prizes. Children and YMCA's across the country participate with one another using the Active Science® web application that features exciting monthly team challenges. Parents and family members get in on the fun and are notified of their child's activity and academic accomplishments through automated messages.
