The ActiveAlpha Group has invested in a range of businesses across the Indian sub-continent. ActiveAlpha invests in companies where it can work in partnership with senior management teams to create value for all stakeholders. The team attempts to create alpha returns for its investors by being actively involved in each investment. Approach: ActiveAlpha is a public markets fund that takes a private equity approach to investments in lesser known liquid mid-cap companies in Asia. Over the past 30 months, the portfolio has delivered net annual US$ returns of 28.5%. Strategy: ActiveAlpha invests in companies demonstrating strong growth led by ethical management teams. These companies typically are market leaders, have predictable cashflows, solid balance sheets and are operating in high ROIC sectors. Opportunity: India has the highest number of listed securities in the world (5,800 vs. 3,600 in the US) and a total market capitalization of over $2 trillion yet only the top 100 companies have any meaningful research coverage. ActiveAlpha seeks out the next 300 to 400 lesser known companies and invests in them to unlock value over the medium term. Team: The CIO – Raghav Kapoor has the unique experience of public markets investing, strategy consulting and private equity experience. He has previously worked at SAC, McKinsey and managed a PE fund focused on growth investments in India.
