At Acton, we use state-of-the-art learning software, real-world projects, Socratic discussions, and a Hero's Journey dialogue in a student-driven multi-age learning studio. Unlike traditional schools that give grades, Acton students must master core subjects and apply knowledge in real-life projects called Quests. Students aren't tested in the traditional sense, instead they develop portfolios of their best work and display their achievements in public exhibitions. We believe every child is a genius and is on their own hero's journey. Just like epic heroes of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Twain's Huckleberry Finn, and even modern day Disney's Lion King and Rowling's Harry Potter—Acton Academy students are on their own hero's journey to develop courage, grit, and character. They learn to learn, learn to do, and learn to be and along the way they build friendships, passion, and a life-long love for learning.
