About UsDuring the COVID-19 pandemic an unprecedented number of backpackers, travellers and international students have been left stranded across Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world. Cancelled flights, rising ticket prices, unemployment and stern restrictions have put backpackers in a state of uncertainty."Adopt A Backpacker" started out as a Facebook group that served as a platform to connect struggling backpackers, travellers and international students to find free accomodation with local families (hosts). Originally created to help just a handful of people, it soon grew exponentially to over 20,000 members Australia wide in a matter of weeks.Hosts are offering their spare bedrooms, parking spaces, garages, backyards, vacant properties, farm and holiday houses to backpackers for free or in exchange for a wide array of basic services. While we continue to grow as a community of global travelers, alongside local hosts, it's important that we continue sharing experiences and fostering cultural exchange whilst developing lifelong friendships.
