Africa Health & Community Program (AHCP) is a registered NGO based in Nairobi, Kenya. It was founded in 2005 by Isabel Omondi to facilitate and promote a self-reliant community both, within the urban slums in Nairobi and rural Kenya. Community empowerment and participation in handling socio-economic challenges with locally available resources are believed to be fundamental for poverty reduction and development within these areas. AHCP provides guidance and exemplary leadership in developing sustainable, cost-effective and participatory initiatives in the fields of health, economic and human development. The key target groups are children and women.Today, AHCP it focusses on the disadvantaged people in the slum Kibera in Nairobi, the largest slum in East Africa. The organization supports people to discover and develop their abilities and to aim for and achieve their goals in order to find a way out of the bad conditions in the slum. The projects provide training in different fields, such as in entrepreneurship, small-scale farming or environmental and health issues. These shall impart the necessary knowledge and skills to them to live better lives while simultaneously improving their living environment.In 2014, AHCP opened the Center of Hope School for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the slum. AHCP is determined to provide quality education for those children hoping to lift them out of poverty in the long-run. About 100 children are currently enrolled in the school.AHCP's work is only possible through valuable partnerships and sponsorships.
