Africa Legal Aid (AFLA) is an influential pan-African entity devoted to promoting rights and accountability. AFLA was founded on 21st October 1995, to coincide with Africa Day of Human Rights. Celebrated for its convening power and its flagship publications, AFLA provides leadership and support to key institutions and organisations.AFLA was established to address the human rights challenges facing Africa and to reform the human rights culture in Africa. It is a culture of massive human rights violations across the board. They include genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, violations of personal security rights, and breaches of core economic, social, and cultural rights.AFLA's vision is to reform this culture of impunity and unaccountability in order to translate paper written rights into practical reality for Africa and its people. By doing so, AFLA seeks new African dawn where the rights of all shall be respected and protected without distinction of gender, race, ethnicity, political and religious affiliation and other unacceptable forms of differentiation.AFLA has an office in the international legal capital of The Hague, the Netherlands, and is also registered in South Africa.
