What they lack are opportunities, particularly access to education, healthcare and economic development. Research has shown that girls continue to be the most excluded group in the world and because of this, they face discrimination and abuse. According to a UN 2015 report, an estimated 481 million women, 15 years and over, lack basic literacy skills, 64% of the total number of those who are illiterate.
