The African Wildlife Trust (AWT) developed out of concern for protecting the elephant populations of Tanzania. This concern grew to an awareness campaign and establishing a fund enabling a specialized anti-poaching unit and team of conservation consultants to focus on proactive, effective wildlife law enforcement.AWT's mission is to aid effectual communication between the public, community and private sectors for the protection of endangered wildlife. AWT's aim is to continue communications with African governments and other appropriate partners to take action against poaching, facilitate the transfer of anti-poaching intelligence, encourage private investors committed to conservation and assist NGO's and foundations in educating communities depending on wildlife to sustain their operations and livelihoods. The transition of conservation into a proactive rather than reactive sector is achieved by using a team skilled in intelligence gathering and conflict resolution with the ability to work across a public-private partnership in locations throughout the country. The AWT support team utilizes training skills, equipment, knowledge, manpower and technology to sustain dedicated anti-poaching in areas with insufficient resources to protect endangered wildlife.
