- New York, New York, United States
Our comprehensive after-school programs are designed to build upon all the learning achieved during the school day and throughout the school year. That is why a program, started initially just to keep children safely off the streets, has evolved into a multi-faceted program that gives at-risk children a real chance to realize their potential for success, in higher education and for the rest of their lives. After-School All-Stars of New York offers a proven alternative for middle school children. We engage them in activities and on-going relationships that increase confidence and encourage success in all areas of their lives - at home, in school and in the community. In June 2008, After-School All-Stars of New York (ASASNY) and St. John's University (STJ) have been awarded two 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grants from New York State Department of Education totaling $6 million in renewable funding over five years. With the new 21st CCLC 5 year renewable grants, ASASNY offers a 30 week continuous after-school program at two middle schools in Queens, J.H.S. 217 and I.S. 192. These comprehensive, free of cost programs are offered during the school year, Monday through Friday, 2:30-5:30 PM, at the respective school sites. After-School All-Stars' mission is to provide out-of-school time programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and in life. Through after-school programs and summer programs, we help kids develop vital 21st Century Skills they will need for jobs in the future – technology, public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork, and creative problem solving. Our programs improve children's lives by nurturing their minds, bodies and spirits through activities that incorporate academic support, enrichment opportunities and health & fitness activities into a single, holistic approach to child development.
