The Academic Society was founded in Lund in 1830, based on the Ango-Saxon college stystem. The aim was to include everyone involved with the university in one society, that would act for a home for all students, teachers, and former students. With the motto, "coniuncta valent" – the united are strong- the society has created an unparalleled social and cultural centre. The AF-borg is not only home to the Academic Society, but also to several independent student organizations, such as the student union's umbrella organization, LUS, and the nations collegiate of curators, KK.
