Established in 2009, Akifer is the most recent link in a corporate chain that extends as far back as the 17th century. Akifer's foundation is laid by Thames Water, one of the world's largest drinking water and wastewater services companies. The people asset and engineering expertise of Akifer derives from the experience gained by its members as part of the Thames Water team in Turkey between 1999 and 2009, and their commitment to sustainable development in the provision of water services. Akifer –the Turkish spelling of Aquifer– is by definition an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock or unconsolidated materials that allow groundwater to travel great distances and join underwater streams or wells. As a natural water transfer line, "Akifer" represents our company's main business of drinking water and wastewater services. Thames Water Turkey and its years of national and international know-how were acquired by the company's top executives of the Middle East and Turkey, Evren Köprülü and Frank Pawley. The new company will continue working under the "Akifer" name to implement drinking water and wastewater projects throughout the country.
