I started Akka's Handcrafted Foods after my older sister, (akka means elder sister in Tamil, my native tongue) who was visiting from India, used Meyer lemons from backyard to make a traditional South Indian style pickle. The condiment proved instantly popular amongst pickle aficionados who loved the fresh taste of lemons without any preservatives or additives. Many friends, including those who were unfamiliar with Indian cooking liked the relish and recalled the fond memories of growing up with mango chutney and curry. Our family soon expanded our operation to making other chutneys, sauce bases, relishes, and marinades. Recently we added Indian Spice Rub and Super Snacks to our offerings. Super Snacks are lightly seasoned, dry roasted chick pea or mung bean combined with dried coconut. \\An annual pilgrimage to our ancestral church at a distant village was a family tradition. My mother prepared her chicken curry sauce, learned from my grandmother before the trip to serve us delicious meals at the village. This and other time tested tradition of making prepackaged food are brought alive at Akka's Handcrafted Foods. At Akka's, we combine the Old World cooking methods with modern culinary science to make authentic, flavorful and fresh tasting food. \\We started showcasing our products at many festivals and fairs and expanded into Farmers' Markets and stores.
