Akong Filipina works to re-envision the image and role of a modern day Filipina in her community. We do this by spreading awareness about issues that affect Filipinas, and highlighting Filipinas in Toronto and the GTA along with their initiatives. By doing this, we hope to break stereotypes that have been holding back many Filipinas from reaching their potential, as many of us were taught by society to believe that taking the road less traveled meant that we could not be successful, that our looks determined our social status; basically, that we must fulfill the requirements of stereotypes and societal standards set upon us to be recognized.
