The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) explores the dynamic relationship between the internet and society and contributes to a growing international field of research from various disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives.The HIIG research agenda highlights the increasing interpenetration of digital infrastructures and everyday life. It is our common goal to study the ongoing transformation of the Internet and its services, with an emphasis on critical moments and structural shifts.The HIIG serves as a platform for researchers on Internet and society primarily and encourages the co-operative development of projects, applications and research networks. Through a variety of formats the institute shares its research with the interested public including politicians, business and civil society.The three founding associates – the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, the University of Arts Berlin and the Social Science Research Center Berlin, in alliance with the Hans-Bredow Institute for Media Research in Hamburg as an integrated co-operation partner – enable multilayer perspectives of the Institute by focusing on technological and legal perspectives as well as on sociological, economical and artistic aspects.
