Our Somerset-based charity preserves the heritage collections of C & J Clark Ltd., the family which founded the global shoemaking company nearly 200-years ago, and the local area the industry developed within.We preserve over 100,000 historical objects and archives spanning six generations of a family firm, helping to tell the story of the development of Street as a company village with nearly 200 years of shoemaking heritage.Through the work of the Alfred Gillett Trust, the large and varied collections of objects, books and archives provide a rich source of information and inspiration about the Clark family, C & J Clark Ltd and the local history of Street for members of the public.We provide a research and enquiry facility, as well as an active events programme of talks and exhibitions.
