Textiles - Guatemala City, Guatemala, Guatemala
What we do? We are a boutique of natural color cotton hand-made products. Founded 26 years ago with the goal of producing jobs to different indigenous communities and embracing sustainable practices by utilizing natural color cotton, upcycled denim and other recycled products. At Wayil, cotton is cultivated in-house, it is naturally grown resulting in pre-hispanic colors. The yarn derived from our cotton does not suffer any dyeing processes being at the core of our sustainable mission. Our brand works along with local artisans around different Guatemala towns to create refreshing, contemporary decorative pieces, home decor, fashion accessories and bespoke versions of traditional patterns and techniques.Community Impact & Legacy We are a social business selling goods in the open market, with the work and effort of the artisans' handmade work. Serving the base of the pyramid creating life chances to the artisans, as a result, Wayil improves the communities and help the environment. Wayil´s artisans are currently having a third generation of weavers, teaching their children their legacy. They don't need to come to the city to find a job, they can learn the traditional craft, finish university and make a living Our Philosophy Our ethical sustainable pursuit is to produce mindfully objects rather than to consume mindlessly. Cultural preservation by recovering native Ixcaco, Cuyuscate and Jade cotton that was almost extinct in the 90's. From the collaboration with "The new denim project" we are able to utilize upcycle denim for all our tones of blues. We are outsourcing as well recycled and upcycled material to keep innovation at the core of the business.
