Architecture & Planning - Brussels, Brussels, Belgium
Alive Architecture is a research-based practice in Brussels that challenges the architect's role in city-making, expanding the discipline from built space to Lived Space. To do so we design strategies for urban transformation processes in fragile areas to generate inclusive neighbourhoods where the local is empowered to welcome their guests.By revealing the history of a site, by observing and by transforming the existing spatial, social and economic situation we trigger the location's unique identity. Through designing methods for onsite mappings, transitional workshops and methods of co-construction, we consider the process of each project as being essential to its outcome, stimulating Lived Space in the public realm.Alive Architecture is also mindful of the need to communicate the knowledge it develops with students, practitioners and researchers internationally. As such, the project's results are regularly disseminated through publications, exhibitions, conferences and workshops. Through teaching at KU Leuven we intend to generate impact upon the future generations of architects to expand the profession from built space to Lived Space.
