Welcome to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Genocide Prevention and Crimes Against HumanityGenocide and crimes against humanity are not only rooted in the tragedies of history, but also represent challenges today. We see countries around the work embroiled in conflicts where atrocities are committed against innocent civilians, and where the warning signs of genocide should not and cannot be ignored. The Genocide Prevention Group was established in 2006 to address these crimes, and to ensure that Canadian parliamentarians have the support and resources they need to address some of the most serious conflicts afflicting the globe. Tackling genocide and crimes against humanity starts with education. The GPG works to inform parliamentarians about ongoing conflicts and crafts strategies to prevent genocide and crimes against humanity. The group also creates vital links between actors who can make a difference in preventing and addressing atrocities by bringing together a network of experts, practitioners, and other parliaments.Though our programs and events, the GPG also aims to support other organizations on the ground and at the international level, such as the United Nations Special Advisor for the Prevention of Genocide, the International Criminal Court, and the International Court of Justice. The work of the GPG is supported by our academic partner, the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies at Concordia University. When faced with some of the world's worst crimes, it can be easy to be discouraged. But by working together, progress can be made in preventing genocide, remembering and learning from past tragedies, and providing relief to civilians caught in cycles of violence.
