Philanthropy - Los Angeles, California, United States
Founded in 2014, Alliance of Moms is a membership-based nonprofit that supports pregnant and parenting teens in LA County's foster care system. As an organization, we are part of the Alliance for Children's Rights, a four-star Charity Navigator nonprofit founded in 1992.More than a quarter of girls in foster care become mothers by the age of 17 with 40% of these young mothers having a second child in their teenage years. Their babies are 66% more likely to become teen parents themselves. Therefore, the Alliance of Moms' mission is to help break the intergenerational cycle of babies born to teens in foster care. We offer educational programs to young moms in the foster care system with a focus on practical tools that empower them to become informed parents who can give their babies a healthier childhood than their own.Our flagship program, Raising Baby, has a curriculum focused on early brain development. We invite over 50 young moms in foster care to participate in expert-led workshops while over 100 Alliance of Moms members volunteer on the day. We also offer a Mentoring Program in partnership with Imagine LA and St. Anne's. Finally, Raising Foodies is a healthy cooking class for pregnant and parenting foster teens living in St. Anne's Residential Facility in East Los Angeles. New members are introduced to Alliance of Moms through Cocktails & Conversation evenings throughout the year. Our partners include CuddleBright, Munchkin, Ergobaby, Mini Maven, LOOM, and The Book Foundation.Facebook: facebook.com/AllianceofMoms/Instagram: instagram.com/allianceofmoms/Twitter: twitter.com/AllianceOfMoms
