Amakomaya is a non-profit organization with product Amakomaya (Mother's Love) is an easy and handy Android and web-application designed and developed to support the pregnant women at the pregnancy period by providing the information about the change in her body during pregnancy period and safe pregnancy related information by the use of internet and mobile technology.To promote safe motherhood, "Amakomaya (Mother's Love)" mhealth initiative has been working since last 2 years, piloting its activities in 7 VDCs of 4 districts in Nepal.Amakomaya is the only mhealth initiative in Nepal that provides motivational video and audio contents, notifies about timely Antenatal Care (ANC) visit, technically empowers FCHV and collects paperless data simultaneously. Mobilizing FCHVs, more than 600 pregnant women have registered in the application and received their stage relevant information and more than 5000 rural populace have been exposed to the educational contents, triggering behavioral change among target population. Relevant stakeholders like hospitals and their doctors, public health experts, IT practitioners, Government of Nepal (GoN), social mobilizers, media, health workers and FCHVs have supported and committed to sustainably support the initiative in its future endeavor. The health post in-charge report increased ANC visit and increase in open discussion among pregnant women and their families about pregnancy issues after being exposed to the educational contents from the application. Seeing its potential, Makwanpur District Government has committed to support the initiative in future and created separate provision for Amakomaya in upcoming district plan 2013/14.
