Founded in 1899, American Candy would become known worldwide for their production of the large Disney-themed lollipops that could be bought at amusement parks and Disney vendors across the country.To keep up with the high demand, Gibian said the company ran 13 production lines at their Selma facility in order to produce candy at their maximum capacity — some 10,000 pounds of candy every hour.The American Candy Company was founded in 1899 in Selma, Alabama. The company was sold by the Gibian Family in 1989 to the Pinkerton Group in Richmond, Virginia. Their wax candy division was sold to Concord Confections in 2002, and this division is now part of Tootsie Roll Industries.
